GAME 20B) WEDNESDAY JANUARY 11TH LIVERPOOL (HOME) CCSF 1ST LEG KO 7.45PM
So we’re drawn out of the hat first and have the disadvantage of playing at home for the first leg. How does that work?
In the League Cup, there’s been meetings in three rounds:
1969/70 3rd rd 3-2 home
1980/81 SF 1st leg 0-1 home, 2nd leg 1-1 away
1995/96 3rd rd 0-4 away
Biggest game was the League Cup semi-final in 1980/81 when Kevin Reeves’ goal was inexplicably ruled out by referee Alf Grey and ‘Pool won the tie 2-1 on aggregate despite a tremendous performance by City at Anfield to draw 1-1.
We’ve already played em twice by now drawing 1-1 at Anfield and winning 3-0 last week so we, and they, know what to expect. Vinny’s 4 match ban has, naturally, been upheld and there’s doubts about Balotelli, Dzeko, and Silva – so will City’s derby second half team plus Barry , Hart, and Clichy be good enough? Let’s hope so, and also that Carroll doesn’t finally come good for them.
Revenge for 1981 please. Also c'mon Everton at Spurs!

  1. Well, that was not very good at all! Savic is like a rabbit in the spotlights, can't pass, no physical presence and terrible decision making highlighted by the completely unnecessary penalty. I just don't see what there is to work on with him, so options need looking at before Vinnie comes back.
Zab at right back and Micah to the middle, with Micah so good at the moment and the attacking options he provides ( probably our most effective outside forward! ), I'd be against this one. Cliche to the middle and Kolarov/Zab at left back, possible but a risk and I'll come to Kola in a minute. We have an established premier league centre back in Nedum, and he makes the most sense at the moment even if Mancini wants rid, now is not the time to be too blinkered.
Kolarov's 20 minute cameo was just about the most inept performance I've ever seen, absolutely hopeless, and we should get shut. Cliche is better if a bit flaky at left back, and Zab will always do a job if required.
Adam J. what is is with this guy? He seems to have become a one-trick pony, take a defender on, for Christ's sake!
The few pluses last night Joe, obviously, Micah, Lescott, Sergio and Nasri much improved.
The tie is not over by any stretch, but we have to be more committed and hopefully less injuries. The big problems are getting a win at Wigan is now vital, and I think we will need to shut up shop a bit for Spurs or we could get murdered.
