Weekend
Busy weekend starting on Friday, picking up the zines, dropping them off at the outlets, popping into The Etihad to arrange for the spreading of Colin Brinkley’s ashes in the memorial garden on Saturday then meeting up with Kevin Parker in Manc who’d arranged something special for Colin’s wife Margaret who’d come over from Spain and Colin’s son Adrian who’d come from Australia. So Saturday we attended the ceremony, which was obviously a sad, touching, and poignant occasion for big Blue and friend Colin.
Sunday dawned and the usual pre derby nerves but I
wasn’t unduly worried about getting a result. It just about stayed fine, but
again Roberto surprised and disappointed us by selecting Mario (though I thought
he did OK) ahead of Carlos (WTF) and preferring Nasty and even Kolo ahead of
Lescott. Baffling, yet again.
Good postings on the blog fellas.
Two down by half time, no booking for Rooney, Vinny
off injured, rags goal disallowed (about time!) great fightback by the boys, only
one winner until…. Clichy and Joe dithered, free kick awarded (just like at the
swamp for the 4-3) “Defend like your lives depend on it” F*ckinell City, not
again, not yet again”
When will we ever
learn to defend set pieces? Joe, sort the wall out.
Rio
was struck by a coin at the end of the game, out of order, and a fan ran on to
confront him, ushered away by Joe.
I
was interviewed by Chris Wheeler of the Mail. I told him about the great
atmosphere and great game, thrown away by City. How the rags celebrations were
understandable, but how they celebrate with aggression (check out Rio’s
expression), how their club does not know how to behave, as opposed to City who
celebrate with joy.
I
told him of how Malcolm used to go on the pitch at O/T in the 60’s before
derbies, go over to the Stretford End and give them the V’s. So it’s always
been hyped up. As for the coin throwing, out of order and the culprit should be
found and banned using CCTV. No to fences or mesh or anything. Same punishment
as the rags doled out for the coin throwing incident on Garrido that time, the
fan who ran on to confront Bellamy and the missile throwing at Bellamy in the
League Cup semi-final. Did we ever get
an apology? I was disappointed we sank to their level. And no, it won’t ever
get as bad as united v Liverpool cos we, as they keep reminding us, will never
be their biggest rivals. We’ll wait to see what gets printed….
Serious
questions need to be asked of Roberto now, and I believe the owners and management
are ruthless, so we need to see an improvement soon, starting on Saturday……..

Knowing the press, they will twist your words so that it looks as though you condone the attack on Ferdigrand. They will say things like just because a footballer celebrates is no reason for fans to attack him etc.
ReplyDeleteAm I alone in thinking that if the coin had been thrown from the City end the culprit would have been spotted on CCTV and arrested within a couple of hours?.
ReplyDeleteHowever every time I see the angle of the throw and Ferdinand's position I'm not convinced that the coin came from the City end.
I wouldn't mind, but every time I want Rooney to do well for England he gets sent off for precisely the type of petulance that he gets away with every time he plays against City.
I don't think there will be conclusive footage of the thrower. Very difficult to spot a coin in flight on any of the footage I've seen and CCTV is usually a lot less quality definition. So yeah, I think you will be alone in thinking it should be an easy job whichever chunk threw it. What I'd like to see is footage of the number of United players celebrating in front of the City half of SS.
ReplyDeleteThe FA should come down heavily, using the model of what they did about stuff being thrown at and hitting Bellamy - i.e. fuck all. It is moronic stuff though and if I was in SS I would have no hesitation in dobbing a neighbour in for something so stupid.
More concerned about Mario though. The mood among fans there and that I know has been generally supportive of Mario up until Sunday. We all know there's a supremely talented player in there if only he'd grow up. But to be talented and lackadaisical is unforgivable and even as a Mario fan, I now want him out in Jan. Having a 4th striker is less essential with only 2 tournaments and Guidetti coming back to fitness. Just get £20M back on him and get ourselves a decent winger.
