Summertime Blues

Friday thoughts

Managerial merry go round continues – Brendan Rodgers in at Liverpool, Chris Hughton at Norwich, Paul Lambert at Villa, Michael Laudrop at Swansea, Harry out at Spurs.Mancini stable at City!

Fixtures are out, don’t look too bad for the Champions.

England through to the quarter finals v Italy who we don’t have a good record against, and I’d have preferred Spain. Joe Hart coming over well on the telly, how will he do against Mario? Spike’s doing day trips we understand. Nothing much on the transfer front, Rags have signed a Japanese player to boost shirt sales over there – how does this conform to FFP?

Pic in the manumirror of ‘winners’ Smalling and company holding up the Euro Cup no, Europa league Cup no, League title no, FA Cup no, League cup no, Community Shield yes! No wonder….!

The Boss is on at The Etihad tonight. Last time I saw him was at the Nymex after driving back from Bristol and the 2-2 draw with Rovers when we were in the third tier. Wow!

Rags are thinking of doing a fanzone similar to the City square – wow what a forward thinking club, have they ever done anything original in their sordid history? Yes – hooliganism and commercial exploitation.

What else? Spotted a few more books on the bandwagon after the title win. People are asking for the post champions KK number 198, and whilst we feel a little guilty being as these books are now out so quickly, sorry to inform that due to euphoria, exhaustion, holidays and lack of games to sell it at, it won’t be available until mid or late July. Stuff is coming in fast and furiously so the earlier we receive contributions the better. Incidentally there’s a testimonial at Bristol City end of July City sending an old boys team and they’re hoping for plenty of Blues with flags and stuff attending.

That’s it for now folks. Check out ‘The Dictator’ film - utter genius, and ‘The rise and fall of Little Voice’ at the Octagon Bolton is a stunning production if you’re into that sort of thing.. Meanwhile c’mon England and the Blue boys in the Euros

Roland Griffin

It is with great sadness that I report the sad passing of Roland. We attended the funeral yeasterday in Sale where there was a massive turnout with a sprinkling of Blues in a moving service for a top Blue and super guy. I had the pleasure of having many chats with Roland about City, the labour party, life, football programmes and spent an enjoyable day with him in Salzburg last season.
Roland will be sorely missed and we send our condolencies to his family and friends.

Wednesday thoughts

Wednesday thoughts

England beat Norway 1-0 – no Joe, and then Belgium 1-0 also – no Vinny, fell asleep to be honest. Brilliant Radio Manc programme last night on fans thoughts of the season with Sean and Jane plus united fan Rebecca who was surprisingly decent. Well done Cheesy – issue it as a CD.

Just read David Conn’s book ‘Richer than God’ which is a brilliant read but I would take issue on a few points – explain later.

Next up is the Euros with Woy’s Liverpool players ffs. So can’t see us doing much.

Went round to eldest daughters last night and watched the you-tube stuff on the Blues including Alex Miller’s video, QPR game (we really DID win it) and the hilarious Ya-Ya Toure song by Blues in the pub.

Just renewed our season tickets so all set for next season, just waiting to see who we sign.

PS

Are you still pinching yourself?
So what’s been going on recently in the afterglow? We attended a Radio Manc do on sports commentary at the Urbis, shortly to be opened up as the new National Football museum. Stuart Hall stole the show but Mike Summerbee was his usual amusing self. Popped down to daughter’s in Newport for the weekend where little Isaac (20 months) proudly wore his ‘Champ’s’ kit for soccer tots. Dad’s and Everton fan so the rule is when The Toffees win the title he can swap allegiances if he wants. Then England won 1-0 in Norway, no Joe Hart and Gareth Barry is out of the competition. Vinny couldn’t persuade Eden Hazard to come to ‘God’s own club’ some talk of the agent demanding silly money. Possibility of Edin going to Munich though they’re not prepared to pay the right money so stuff em, and I’m with Tony on the injury prone 29 year old Van Persie. We’ve a new ‘big cheese’, Tom Glick from Derby, replacing Gary Cook. Tom did great things for ‘The Rams’ increasing attendances amongst other things though how he is going to do that at the Etihad without the capacity being increased is debatable. The powers that be weren’t impressed some years ago when I asked them if it had been designed to be expanded in the future. Now we’re here and it looks like we’re stuck.
Just finished reading Andy Morrison’s book – bloody hell. Most interesting story was the one where Andy went to sort out some rag fans he’d played against who’d given him stick throughout the game (post pro career). When confronted they were quite brave until Andy did the business, and then afterwards they wanted to take him to court which was thrown out. Typical, no wonder everyone hates them. Like to dish it out but can’t take it. Just received a copy of David Conn’s book ‘Richer than God’ and noticed Colin Shindler’s ‘Manchester City ruined my Life’ on the shelves of Waterstones. Wonder if a Blue will write ‘Manchester City ruined my Wife’? – sure there’s plenty of takers!
Finally Michael Johnson. Oh dear get it bloody sorted Mike before it’s too late.
Season ticket info has arrived – pretty decent for us owd codgers in the new Kippax so might upgrade to platinum. All for now – articles for KK 198 trickling in so keep em coming please.

PS the lad went to the rugby at the Etihad and got himself badly sunburned! No mum around see! Congrats to York on getting back in the League, and Crewe and Huddersfield on promotion.
