close season

Well that’s the close season virtually over. The boys are back from their fairly successful pre season tour and tonight we play at Oldham

Saturday I was invited by Derek Partridge, to join the team coach for the trip down to Bristol for the Gerry Gow testimonial match. Tortuous trip, arrived there at 3 and the game kicked off at 3.45. Good turnout for Gerry – about 5,000 there – and plenty of Blues. Flogged a few zines and will be sending a cheque to Gerry’s testimonial fund.

After the game Bristol laid a buffet on and we tucked in along with Joe Corrigan, Jeff Whitley, Fitzroy Simpson, Eric Nixon senior and junior, Kevin Bond, Asa Hartford, Gary Bennett, Gerry himself, the legendary Shaun Goater, who scored the winner in the 2-1 win for City, and others.

Sunday, we attended the Astley and Tyldesley inaugural branch meeting, very well attended and Paul Lake gave a brilliant Q and A session. Lots of familiar faces there and the branch should go from strength to strength.

KK 198 is currently out and is a monster, as you’d expect. 56 pages for £3 – look out for it tonight at Oldham.

Obviously this blog needs updating/revamping, so any offers of help will be greatly appreciated.

Mike Doyle

Found this great clip from the 1993 series KYTV featuring Mike Doyle.  Look at Mike's face at the end, he looks really concerned that the guy has hurt himself.
