Firstly, Darren was shot in Love/Hate on Wednesday, but as there’s another series planned I guess he’ll survive. They’re all probably united fans anyway so who cares?
England v Scotland, plenty of rags in the team, just Joe then Milner for us. Once again you hoped Joe would have a good game but once again he cocked up. Body behind the ball, laddie. Bert would’ve saved em both.
Interesting atmosphere, and good to send the Scots packing, they’ve won eff all since Bannockburn. Wonder which side my ancestors were on then, probably the winning one, though I think Willie W was gone by then!
And so to the start of the Prem. But I’m down in Newport where there was a massive police presence for the visit of Bristol Rovers fans. I’m told County still have a big firm of nutters.
Anyway, well done Liverpool, Villa, Saints, Fulham. Watched the rags. Swansea had a goal disallowed – player offside, then onside and another player scored. No re-run in the reviews, typical. They played well but Arsenal and City must regret letting RVP slip through. Defensively I think the rags have more strength in depth than us unless we make a signing, and not another 30 odd year old please.
Two days to go for us. Have done a couple of questionnaires for The Mag (congrats on 25 years) and True Faith, their fanzines.
Here’s the It’s A Fix extract from KK207 :
1) MONDAY AUGUST 19Th : NEWCASTLE (HOME) KO 8PM
Fourth season back in the Prem. Last pot the 1969 Inter Cities Fairs Cup, recent connection is Shay Given, and this is the 155th league meeting
Some celeb fans : Ant and Dec, John McCririck, Chris Eubank, Tony Blair, Abhisit Vejjajiva (new Thailand PM) Steve Harrison (England fast bowler), Robson Green, Geordie Bryan in the Oddfellows, Swinton
Last season They finished in 16th place with 41points and 2 wins 7 draws and 10 losses away from home.
At St James’ Park in December it was a 3-1 City win, bouncing back from the derby defeat. Sergio put us ahead (10) and Garcia made it two (39) Ba pulled one back (51) and Ya Ya restored the two goal margin (78). Crowd was 49,579 with 2,778 Blues.
In the Capital One Cup they went out 2-1 at O/T in the 3rd rd. In the Europa league they took it seriously lasting until April when they went out to Benfica
In the FA Cup they lost 2-0 at Brighton in the 3rd rd.
Form at home to Newcastle : Last season it was a 4-0 coast in March. First goals didn’t arrive until Tevez (41) then Silva (45+2), followed up by Kompany (56) and (inevitably) Ya-Ya Toure (69).
Crowd was 47,201 with only 1,719 Geordies, saving up for their European trips, Ashley, apparently won’t take up the full allocation.
Prior to that it was 7 wins and 2 draws since their only Prem league win (1-0 in 200/01)
For City : WWWWWDWDWWLDDW
Comment : Last close season they gave Pardew an 8 year contract. This time they’ve astonishingly employed Joe Kinnear, but nothing Mike Ashley does surprises. Geordie fans are mortified and have virtually thrown in the towel already..
Not much happening yet on the transfer front, Remy’s come in and Cisse has relented on wearing the Woga shirt further to him being caught out in a gambling casino!. Steve Harper, Danny Simpson and Moyo have been released, but no return yet for Djemba Ba.
Surely we’ll win this one, to continue our fine recent record against them. 3-2 to us is my prediction
WWTWTWShite : Averaged 16,001 in 1980/81 and last season it was 50,517, 3rd highest in the Prem.
