Be afraid

I'm afraid but it is time for a win at Anfield

League Cup final tomorrow, not seen anything on our win last season and on Sky the Cup. just like the Prem League trophy doesn’t have Sky blue ribbons. No history?

Watched West Ham v Palace, 3 goals for Palace, two from corners one from a headed on free kick. How do they do it?

Tomorrow it’s Liverpool away, who are hopefully knackered after their exertions in Turkey. Here’s the It’s A Fix extract from KK222 :

27) SUNDAY MARCH 1ST : LIVERPOOL (AWAY) KO 12 NOON (Not 2.05 as per the Guardian!)

Last promotion was in 1962, since when they’ve won the lot but no title since 1990 (who’d’ve thought we’d win it before them?) Recent connections : Mario Balotelli, Kolo Toure, Daniel Sturridge. 158th league meeting.

Some celeb fans: John Bishop, Ricky Tomlinson, Billy Bob Thornton, Angelina Jolie, Cilla Black, Samuel L Jackson, Ian Beale (Eastenders), Daniel Craig, Mike Myers,

This season so far : They’re in 6th place with 45 points from 26 games and 6 wins 5 draws and 2 losses at home.
We played em in a friendly in the USA in the summer drawing 2-2 but losing 3-1 in the penalty shoot out.

At The Etihas in August it was a 3-1 City win, goals coming from Jovetic (41, 55) and Aguero (69) with Zabaleta (OG 83) providing their consolation goal. Crowd was 45, 471 with 2,503 red scouse.

In the Capital One Cup they looked to have their name on it with wins against ‘Boro 2-2aet then 14-13 on pens, Swansea 2-1, both at home, Bournemouth 3-1 away, then losing to Chelsea 1-1 home, 0-1 away in the semi final, allowing this game to take place today.

In the FA Cup they won 2-1 away at AFC Wimbledon in the 3rd rd, drew 0-0 at home to Bolton in the 4th rd winning 2-1 with two late goals in the replay, have won 2-1 at Palace away in the 5th rd. and play Blackburn at home in the 6th round.

In The Chimps League, they drew 1-1 H with Basel, 0-1 A; drew 2-2 at Ludogorets, 2-1 H; lost 3-0 at home to Real Madrid, 0-1 A, to drop into the Europa League where they won 1-0 at home to Besiktas but lost 1-0 away then 5-4 on pens to go out.

Our form at Anfield, last season  in April, it was that heart breaking 3-2 loss as Liverpool took the title, prematurely, and Rodgers became manager of the year/decade..
Liverpool went 2 up through Sterling (6) and Skrtel (26), but City came back through Silva (57) and Johnson (OG 62) Coutinho (77) clinched it after a Vinny slice. Crowd
was 44,601 with 2,880 Blues.
Prior to last seasons loss, and the previous 2 draws we lost 3-0 in 2011, drew 2-2 in 2009/10 and 1-1 in 2008/09, but after our rare 2-1 win in 2002/03 it was 5 straight losses.
For City : LDDLDD

Comment :. No additions in the window but Assaidi (4.7M) and Suso (£1M) have gone, and Gerrard’s off in the summer. Hopefully their fans’ despicable behaviour at last season’s game won’t be repeated and we’ll be shown the same respect that we showed them off the pitch, though the Slippy G song will get an airing, and hopefully it won’t come back to bite us in the bum!
They’ve not hit the highs of last season yet but with Sturridge back (with his daft goal celebration) they’re starting to hit something like form. However if ever we needed a win here it’s now (again).

Groundwise : Developments are in operation but we’re in our usual stand with the crap views and ticket prices are £52/£50.

Anfield : Capacity : 45,362 (3,000 for City)

Wwtwtwshite : Av’d 22,742 in 31/32, and this season it’s 44,686.
Parking is usually a problem, but there are local car parks and the Arkles pub is usually welcoming provided we behave ourselves
Away Day Zine : Red All Over The Land I think is still going, plus The Liverpool Way, whose editor Dave Usher, is featured in the latest (March 2015) 4-4-2 magazine (£4.75)

Anyone see Alyson Rudd on Sunday Supplement? She waxed lyrical about Mark Clattenburg! Must’ve put women journo’s back 50 years.

Nipped up to Bury to pop some zines into Bhaji in Millgate shopping centre, so hopefully they’ll sell a few.

Barca then.
Mysterious fenced off area outside turnstile J now removed sensibly. So what was that all about?

Lots of unfamiliar faces going into the ground. We queued to get in and the usual (or unusual) arseholes push in at the front. Despite cries of derision and being told to fuck off, the stewards, more concerned about looking in our bags of fanzines, let them do it. Infuriating.

We weren’t in our usual seats (they were occupied by Blues) so we went up the designated aisle and were told by the steward to go up the other aisle. So we go down, across and up the other aisle and after being shouted at by Blues to find our seats the steward tells us to go back to the other aisle, so we do and find our seats without having to ask nearly the whole row to stand up. It’s an age thing.

Outplayed mainly but had our chances, and  what was Zabba doing at the end giving the pen away? Well done Joe BTW. We were one decent corner away from getting a result, not for the first time, but as KK bloggers point out it’s not quite that simple.

On the way home (Sue was driving) 5Live rang up and asked if I could go on which I agreed to saying that Barca were miles better than us but we could have got a result and the tie is still alive and better than the 0-2 last year. When asked about Nasri going straight down the tunnel after substitution I said at least he shows passion! Not the answer they were looking for.
“Thank you for your call Dave”
Cheeky sods! You rang ne, remember.

Arsenal lost to mighty Monaco and Liverpool just lost on pens, so, just like last year no European competition to distract them. Will it fire them up for Sunday or deflate them?

Resentment is building up by season ticket holders in the east stand level 2 re the complete lack of information from the club about what is going to happen  next season.

Gonna read Stu Brennan’s piece now.

Off to Stockport today to put some KK222’s into Bhaji on Merseyway.
Barcelona tonight, and praps we’ll find out why a complete area was fenced off outside entrance J to provide a bottleneck for fans exiting the spiral.
Here’s the it’s a Fix extract from KK222 : 26A)

Barca were formed in 1899 by Swiss, English and Catalonian footballers led by Joan Gamper. They are a symbol of Catalanism, their motto is ‘More Than a Club’ and anthem is ‘Cant Del Barca’. Club colours are reputed, peculiarly, to be based on those of Crystal Palace

They’ve won 22 La Liga’s,  26 Copa Del Rey’s, 11Super Cups, 3 Copa Eva Duarto’s. In Europe they’ve won 4 UEFA Champions cups, 4 Cup winners’ Cups, 4 UEFA Super Cups, 3 Cities Fairs Cups, 2 FIFA World Club Cups.

They were the first team in 1961 to knock Real Madrid out of Europe, which was some revenge for an 11-1 drubbing in 1943.

They are currently in second place in La Liga with 56 points from 24 games, with 18 wins, 2 draws and 4 losses, 4 points behind Real Madrid.
Manager/coach is Luis Enrique but the Director of football Zubizaratta was sacked in January.

Current connections are Yaya Toure, plus Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain, who will be frostily received again, or will they?!

Results in the Champions League : Last season they went out to Atletico Madrid.
This season results are : PSG 2-3 away, 3-1 home; Apoel Nicosia 1-0 home, 4-0 away; Ajax 2-0 away, 3-1 home.

Friendlies :
1951/52 A 1-5; 1956/57 A2-3; 1974/75 A 2-3; 1986/87 A 1-1; 2002/03 H 2-1 when they opened COMS and we dreamt we might meet them in Europe one day: 2009/10 A 1-0 (Joan Gamper  trophy)

Last season at The Etihad on February 18th it was a 2-0 loss. Messi put them ahead on 53 minutes from the spot when Demichelis was adjudged to have fouled him in the area, disputed by City, and he was also given his marching orders. Some Blues despaired that he’d ever cut it but he proved everyone wrong and was a vital cog in the two trophy season. Alves added a late killer blow to make it 2-0 and ‘a mountain to climb in Barcelona’. Crowd was 46,030 with 2,725 Catalans)

Comment: They were given a transfer embargo in April 2014 after discretions with the signing of young players, but this was delayed due to appeal which allowed them to sign Suarez. However the appeal was rejected and they couldn’t sign anyone in the January window and can’t sign anyone in the summer.
They don’t need much of an introduction as they are so well known, particularly in Manchester as they’ve thrashed the rags twice in European Cup finals, and beat us twice last year.
They’ve obviously added Suarez to the mix and lost Fabregas, whilst we’ve added Bony, Fernando, Caballero, Mangala, Lampard and Sagna. But no Jovetic of course.
We’ll be hoping for a better result than last season, and you never know…..

Ricky Hatton’s favourite 3 City goals were on Soccer AM. Andy H’s 5th in the 5-1, Mario’s 1st in the 6-1 and, of course, Sergio’s title winner v QPR.
Good start to the day with the rags, even though they’re the best team in the league, losing at Swansea, and City old boy Ben Mee getting a draw for Burnley at Chelsea. Oooh Jose was well pissed off, shame!
So we were well up for it for a change and it worked a treat with the opening goal followed up by a couple more and a scintillating one from Edin.
Half time, and I had a chat with Bobby Johnstone book author, KK contributor and top Blue John Leigh, who, astoundingly, didn’t get a job as a City tour guide. Be interesting to see who they did actually set on, though his son Alex was successful.
Second half another two then we relaxed with one eye on Tuesday’s game.
News came through that Malaga had won at Barcelona.
Sunday and Spurs drew with a last minute penalty at home to West Ham. Sam thought the ref should have blown the minute his goalie parried the ball. This actually happened when Bert parried a pen at Spurs and the ref blew for half time before Cliff Jones could pop it in
1960 ish, and it cost Spurs the title, ho ho.
Noel G was on MOTD 2 at night and he was his usual witty self with lots of pops at the rags, and pleased that Liverpool won as they could keep the rags out of the Chimps league along with Arsenal, but doesn’t think we’ll catch Chelsea.
Bodge, as he calls ‘Pool’s manager, who reckoned he had no sympathy with Saints after he signed half their team in the summer, thought their fans were disrespectful to their ex players. What a twat. Not a mention last season when ‘Pool fans were a total disgrace in our Anfield game. Fuckin hypocrite.

Managed to get KK222 to the Manc outlets today, then went round to 3 post offices to get 20p stamps for the subscriptions (to add to the 97p ones I’ve already got!
Apparently today The Chase (ITV 5PM) managed to get not one but two rag questions in there! Can anyone confirm?

Everton did well last night but I hear Liverpool got upset about Mario taking a penalty. That’s what he does best, takes penalties! Apart from all the off the field antics, and guess what? I’ve missed him off recent connections in the Liverpool bit (before Ged or Steve point it out?)

Tomorrow it’s Newcastle and surely they’ve had their one win at The Etihad in the last ten years with the League Cup win. So, here’s the it’s A Fix extract from KK222, out tomorrow don’t forget :

Last pot the 1969 Inter Cities Fairs Cup, recent connection is Shay Given, and this is the 158th league meeting.

Some celeb fans : Robson Jerome, Tony Blair, Ant and Dec, Sting, Jimmy Nail, Brian Johnson, Mark Knopfler, Paul Collingwood, Steve Harmison

This season so far :  They’re in  11th place with 32 points from 25 games and 3 wins 4 draws and 6 losses away from home.

At St James’ Park on the first day of the new season it was a 2-0 City win. Goals came from Silva (38) and Yaya (90) and the crowd was 50, 816 with 3,156 Blues.

In the Capital One Cup : In the 2nd rd they won 1-0 at Gillingham, in the 3rd round they won 3-2 aet at Crystal Palace, at The Etihad in the 4th round in October it was a shock 2-0 loss for City. Goals came from Aaron (6), and Sissoko (76). Crowd was 40,752 with 2,494 astonished Geordies and dumbfounded City fans. In the 5th round they went out 4-0 at Spurs.

In the FA Cup third rd they lost 1-0 at Leicester.

Our League form at home to Newcastle : Last season at the Etihad on the first day of the 2013/14 season it was a great 4-0 home win on a Monday night. Goals came from Silva (6), Aguero (22), Toure (50) Nasri (75) Crowd was 46,842 with 1,574 Geordies.
That made it 7 wins and 1 draw in the last 8 games, and .
their only Prem league win was 1-0 in 200/01.

Comment: Despite his long contract Pardew had to go and he was replaced by John Carver without much change in results, whilst Pards has done better at Palace. No signings in the transfer window and main departures were Ben Arfa and Yang-Mbiwa for £5.7m.
Yaya should be back  and Bony should make his debut  so a goal fest is anticipated and we must get it, proving that the Capital One Cup win was a fluke (even though on the night it wasn’t!)

WWTWTWShite : Averaged 16,001 in 1980/81 and this  season it’s 51,167. Admirable.

Stoke away and a 4-1 win was just the ticket. I know that they went and lost by the same score at Blackburn in the Cup, and I wondered about goalie Begovic then realised it was Butland in nets. Hmmm, didn’t work, but it should be remembered that Stoke were down to ten men and were away, so it doesn’t diminish our result at the Britannia. Funny that there was an elbow in that game that wasn’t analysed on MOTD.
Remember last year when Rooney took the piss about Yaya not winning the ACON? Anyone seen a congratulatory tweet from him this year? No, thought not, no wonder…….no apology I bet either yet for last night’s dive. Still Arsenal should knock em out in the next round.

Pleased to announce that KK222 is at the printers and should be in the Manc outlets on Friday. This issue has a colour front and back cover with Yaya holding the ACON and a caption “How Many More Trophies For YaYa This Season?”
Massive thanks to all out contributors.
This issue is A4, 44 pages and includes all the regulars and particularly articles on the new TV deal, The African King, referees, Chappy on Keegan and Mancini.
It can also be bought direct from (Cheques to) King Of The Kippax, 25, Holdenbrook Close, Leigh. Lancs, WN 7 2 HL, for £4.50 inc P and P

Tuesday PS

Stoke won 4-1 at Rochdale in the 4th rd of the FA Cup and travel to Blackburn on Saturday in the 5th rd

Doom and gloom at the mo so it’ll be just like us to go out and win at Stoke. Here’s the It’s A fix extract from Kk221:

Last and only trophy the League Cup in 1972, 92ndt league meeting. Recent connection : Glen Whelan, Mark Hughes, Stevie Ireland

Some celeb fans : Nick Hancock, Aha, Dominic Cork, Julian Clary, Frank Bough FRIP, Slash, Jeremy Paul

This season so far  :They’re in 10th place with 33 points from 24 games and 5 wins 2 draws and 4 losses at home.
At The Etihad in August  it was a ridiculous 1-0 loss, Diouf scoring the only goal in a breakaway in the 58th  minute.
Crowd was 45, 622 with 1,182 astounded Stokies.

In the Capital One Cup they beat Pompey 3-0 at home in the 2nd rd,, Sunderland 2-1 away in the 3rd, but lost 3-2 at home to Saints in the 4th rd

In the FA Cup 3rd rd  they beat Wrexham 3-1 with late goals and in the 4th rd face Rochdale away.

Last season at The Britannia in September it was that 0-0 draw Crowd was 25,052  with 2,869 Blues.

Our form at Stoke : Last season’s draw, was our 5th in a row!
For City it’s : DDDDDLWWLLW

Groundwise : We get half of the stand behind the goal again. There’s an enclosed area for us outside the turnstiles with a burger van for our delectation.

Britannia Stadium : Capacity : 28,218 (2,800 for City)

Comment : They’re playing slightly better football these   days but home form hasn’t been as good as in previous seasons so maybe we’ll break the draw hoodoo that’s dogged us recently.
We know what to expect here, hostile crowd and full blooded encounter but nothing we can’t deal with these days, and we desperately need a win.

WWTWTWShite: Averaged 8, 288 in 85/86 and this season it’s 27,201.

Pubs/parking : Plenty round and about, but eating and drinking places are away from the ground.

Away day zine : The Oatcake, is a long standing zine which comes out for every home game. If you can get your hands on a real Oatcake you should enjoy!

Sat Nav : Mathews Way ST 4 4EG

Lots of god stuff coming in for KK222, keep it coming, please!

Hull home, cold but bright. Grandaughter didn’t want to come as we’ve lost the last two when she’s been, and blames herself! Grandson decided to go shopping with his girlfriend (the boy needs a good talking to) and Funboy said he tried to sell his ticket as “it’s a chore watching City at the moment”).
After gifting them the usual free header which hit the post, we gave away the most comical of goals. Sergio wasn’t interested, Dzeko was dosy, Nasri wouldn’t shoot, we still can’t take corners (at least they’re better than a goal kick!”) and as for Fernandinho and Fernando….
We should have had a penalty for the foul on Silva and Milner got us out of jail when I’d long since given up the ghost.
Pleased to note that Peter’s back selling, though he did give one to Uwe Rosler!
Much criticism of the management and certain players on Radio Manc on the way home, Alex leading the tirade, brilliantly.
Anyway, Chelsea won at Villa with a goal nearly as daft as the one we conceded, and today the rags played plan B,  high ball into the box to earn a late draw at West Ham.
Looks like the bubble has burst and it needs re-inflating at Stoke who got a late draw at Newcastle with …..a high ball in the box.
Ivory Coast won the ACON which spun out to extra time and pens, and you have to wonder if we’d’ve been better off taking a punt on Ings who would’ve been available this last month! Hindsight eh.
Good postings on the blog, and pretty powerful stuff coming in for KK222.

Friday, 6 February 2015

Back to Blighty and the central heating’s packed in! Only saw one rag shirt while we were away – in the square in Casablanca! I see we managed to opt out of the FA Cup again and threw 2 points away at Chelsea.
Rags through to 5th round at Preston, and after slagging us off for empty seats had to threaten season ticket holders with a one match Prem league suspension if they didn’t buy a Cambridge ticket and delayed the start for twenty minutes to get everyone in. Hypocrites, no wonder everyone hates them.
Wilf and Yaya are in the Final of the ACON with the Ivory Coast on Sunday v Ghana. Let’s hope they win and the crowd behave.
Unbelievably Jovetic is the one out of the Chimps league squad.
Tomorrow it’s Hull at home. Last week they had a 3-0 home defeat and are in the bottom three, but as usual it’s a must win for us.
Here’s the it’s A Fix extract from KK221 :

Second  season back in the Prem for Hull since they went down in 2010 after a couple of seasons in the Prem. Our 14th League meeting.
Last Pot : Erm, none, but FA Cup runners up last year, unlucky to lose 3-2 to the Arse aet after being 2-0 up.
Is it Hull City or Hull Tigers? Well there’s only ONE City. US!

Some Celeb fans : Sinitta, Roy North (Basil Brush’s mate) Omar Sharif, Tom Courtney, John Alderton, John Prescott (possibly) and KK subscriber Stephen Hodgson.

This season so far : They’re in 18th place with 19 points from 23 games and 2 wins 4 draws and 6 losses away from home
At Hull in September it was a 4-2 City win. We went 2 up through Aguero (7) and Dzeko (11) then gifted them a couple with a Mangala (21) own goal and Hernandez (32P) before Dezko (68) and Lampard (87) saved our blushes.
Crowd was 22,859 with 2,458 Blues.

In the Europa Cup they beat AS Trenco 2-1 on aggregate in the qual round but went out on away goals to our old friends Lokeren, losing 1-0 in Belgium and winning 2-1 at home.
In the Capital One Cup they lost 3-2 at West Brom in the 3rd rd.

In the FA Cup they lost 2-0 at Arsenal in the 3rd rd.

Last season : At the Etihad in August it was a 2-0 City win, Negredo (65) and Toure (90) were the scorers in a bit of a struggle. Crowd was 46,903 with 1,587 Tigers/City fans!

Form at home v Hull for City: So far there’s been just 6 meetings with 4 City wins and 2 draws. For City : WDWWWD

Comment : They’re having a real struggle this season  have dropped into the bottom three, have shipped out Tom Ince and signed Dame (there is nothing like one) N Doye for £3M. Ex rag Mike Phelan has joined them as ass manager to Brucie.Time to get back on the winning trail City.

WWTWTWShite: Averaged 3,993 in 1981/82 and this season it’s 23,201.

Copy for KK222 is required by early next week please.
